SOUND: This unit puts out a rich, clean, clear sound. Bass is present without being overwhelming; higher notes don't get tinny. When evaluating any speakers, I listen for how well they handle guitar and a cappella, because fuzziness and other issues will stand out. This little unit did not muddy the purity of the unaccompanied human voice. It also stood up to the subtle complexities of guitar -- in ballads, rock, and the music I love best, Hawaiian slack-key.

I got this in order to pipe music onto my deck and was impressed immediately. Let me say first off, is you're expecting Bang & Olufsen quality from a $40 speaker, you should probably pin a note to your sweater with your address in case you have trouble finding your way home. That said, I am very pleased with the sound quality and the range (have discovered that the range does differ from device to device-on my old HTC the range was about 3 feet, on my new LG the range is more like 10-12+ feet through walls/doors/windows). Added bonus: one night after 1 too many mojitos, I left the speaker outside and (naturally) there was a rainstorm that night. I consoled myself with the reminder that the speaker was under $50, and since I liked it so much, I would just buy another one. Well, to my pleasant surprise the Angle worked just fine, even after being left out in the rain, keeping in mind that it is NOT rated for "outdoor" use - obviously you can used it outdoors, but it is not specifically designed or engineered for wet weather, so should be brought indoors. The process for connecting, disconnecting, and reconnecting to various devices can be a little fickle, but I'll gladly overlook that because of the respectable sound quality(didn't find the bass too weak at all; I was looking for something to provide nice background music, not mimic floor seats at a concert), great price, and the altogether unexpected resilience it showed after being rained on. Would definitely recommend and (if I had to) would buy again.

Ok, so I didn't buy this on Amazon, as I didn't want to wait on the shipping......I know, I'm impatient! I went to the local Big Box store and picked it up. After listening to it for a couple of days, I began to contemplate if I had made the right choice. So, I went to the local Bose store in Boca Raton, FL and asked if I could do a side by side with their units. A store associate gladly accepted my request/challenge, and we went into one of their sound rooms for product demos. He brought with him the Bose Mini and the Soundlink II.

I admit that I lean towards Bose due to my positive history with the company. All things considered, I expected a "blowout" with the Bose coming out on top. WAS I WRONG! First, we put the Boom and the Mini head to head. The Bose Associate controlled both units from his iPod Touch to start. He started with the Mini and switched over to the Boom. Both were played at 50% volume with a very noticeable difference in output. To clarify, the Mini's MAX volume was equivalent to the Boom's less than 75% volume output. In other words, the Boom was MUCH louder than the Mini. The employee was dumbfounded at this. I said ok, lets test the sound quality with a song that I find myself listening to quite often. It is Mothers Wingspan, by Ben Leinbach, which I think covers the sound spectrum pretty well.

We hooked both units to my phone for this test. Testing on the Mini began with a slight popping from the speaker. You could tell it was really straining. It should be noted that the volume on the Mini was set at 50%. The song was switched to the Boom, and the sound was phenomenal. Never did we hear popping from the Boom. However, at 80% volume you could begin to hear distortion, but by this point the volume was at an uncomfortable level (for your ears).

When purchasing the speakers I was in a debate between the small JBL clip , the philips sharpshooter, and this one. I went to the local best buy to try the other two out and was surprised that such a loud sound came out of these little speakers. So when I made the purchase of this speaker it had some big shoes to fill in the small speaker department.

When I received the speaker it came with a charge and paired to Bluetooth seamlessly. When I play the speaker I noticed that the base response was a lot better than the other two I tried. The speaker `s highs on the other hand are not as loud but since I play mainly hip hop and R&B this speakers sounds better to me than the other two in its size range. Out of all three of the speakers I tried the JBL was louder but didn't have the base response I was looking for. The philips sharpshooter was the least powerful out of the three and this one came in right behind the JBL clip but got my vote as the best speaker out of the three because of the bass response.

The Bose SoundLink Mini really raises the bar in the high-end "mini" bluetooth speaker area, if not at least in sound quality then in build quality. There are several other speakers in this space, the two closest would probably be the Jawbone Jambox Jawbone JAMBOX Wireless Bluetooth Speaker - Black Diamond - Retail Packaging, and the UE Boom Ultimate Ears BOOM Wireless Bluetooth Speaker - Black (980-000678). I've listened to the other two and in my opinion the Bose just sounds better all the way around. There is a richness and fullness to the mini's sound that is not matched with either the UE or Jawbone Jambox.

The first impression you get when you take the SoundLink Mini out of the box is how substantial it feels. It weighs 1.5 pounds and has heft. When you place it on a table or on the charging cradle, it is stable and does not wobble. The enclosure is solid aluminum. Its got a matte finish to it and there is a row of rubberized buttons on the top. The front and back grills are metal.
